St Francis of Assisi is an inspiration to follow in Jesus’ ‘footsteps’.
A riotous early life, captivity, and visions, Francis dramatically changed and committed himself to prayer, solitude and devotion to all of creation. Born and raised in Italy in the early 1180s, Francis lived the high life of a wealthy young man until illness, captivity and visions caused him to re-evaluate his life in his early 20s.
He changed direction, became a follower of Christ, wanting to commit himself to the teachings of Jesus Christ, prayer and solitude, preaching repentance, giving up wealth to walk in poverty. His sense of brotherhood under God included especially the poor, lepers, normal folk, all of creation and nature. Come and be inspired by such commitment to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. Bring a packed lunch to share in the beauty of fellowship, stillness and peace. The day will include an optional midday Anglican Eucharist.
