Chapel
Saint Columba’s Chapel is regarded by many of our regular users as one of the main reasons why they return. There is an atmosphere of serenity in its basic simplicity that lends to various modes of worship: from full liturgical services through to silent contemplation, and across interfaith boundaries.
The flexibility of the chapel furniture allows for formal theatre style seating for larger groups of up to 100 in the nave with smaller groups sitting in the round. We have a simple sacristan service supplying bread and wine for eucharistic services, and can accommodate smells and bells through to sitting quietly in meditation.
A digital hymn player is available with 1500 tunes for hymns – some instruction might be needed before use. A new full size keyboard Clavinova electronic piano is available for keyboard musicians. There is also a small number of percussion instruments available for use. Recently we received a generous donation of a Celtic Harp from the London and South East Branch of The Clarsach Society which is available for qualified users.
Adjacent to the chapel is a ramped entrance so that the chapel may be used separately to the rest of the house.
The new sound system includes a hearing loop, two stand and one lapel radio microphones for conference use.
Users include parish and religious groups for liturgy, retreat leaders conducting retreats, meditation groups, Bible-based churches, Baptists, Buddhists, Roman Catholic, Hindus, Anglican, free churches, Counsellor training seminar groups, Deanery Groups, Archdeaconry Groups, senior clergy awaydays, international and national councils and conferences for senior clergy
